Where is Court Hill Centre?

Court Hill Centre is an outdoor centre near Wantage in Oxfordshire. It is located on the Ridgeway within the beautiful countryside of the area, in the Vale of White Horse. Subject to idyllic views and visited by much local wildlife, including deer! The Ridgeway is Britain’s oldest road, and is 87 miles long, with the Ridgeway National Trail reaching between the chalk ridge of the Berkshire Downs where the White Horse is situated, and the Goring Gap, as well as leading onto further walking routes, and Court Hill Centre is therefore a great place for hikers to stop on route, to either use the tea room, or to stay the night in the Centre’s accommodation.

 

What can be found at Court Hill Centre?

Accommodation in the form of both a bunkhouse and camping opportunities are available to visitors wishing to stay the night. The bunkhouse contains a total of 45 beds, and there is also a self-catering kitchen available to use. However for many visitors, the main attraction at Court Hill is the tea room, which serves food including cooked breakfasts, toasted sandwiches, and jacket potatoes, as well as cakes and hot drinks. The tea room is open every day between 10:30 and 16:00. There is also a woodland space and outdoor seating.

 

What can the Centre be used for?

Aside from anyone who fancies something to eat or drink to keep them going mid-walk, Court Hill Centre is perfect for school trips or residentials, with ample outdoor space for activities, as well as a function room which is available to hire. Many families also use Court Hill as a space to hold get-togethers, either by pre-booking a table in the tea room, or by hiring the function room.

After the coronavirus pandemic, we are much more aware as a community of the importance of supporting local businesses. Currently Court Hill Centre is trying to raise enough money to fix one of their boilers, and are relying on the help and support of their customers to fundraise for this. Aside from this, the people who run the Centre are endlessly hardworking the environment in the tea room is welcoming and friendly. With fairy lights and warm colours creating a cosy atmosphere, many customers love sitting inside to have a cup of tea and a cake and watching the birds on the feeders outside, or else enjoying the sun from the outdoor seating during summer. Court Hill Centre is something of a hidden gem, beloved by its local customers, and certainly worth giving a visit if you’re in the area.
