THE Oxford Mail player ratings after Oxford United went into the November international break with a 1-0 defeat at Watford.

JAMIE CUMMING

Made a couple of really good saves, and atoned for a sloppy ball out by making an important clearance. Unfortunate with the double save for the goal, that the ball still squirmed through – 8

SAM LONG

Solid enough on the right-hand side of the back three, especially when coming up against some very tricky opponents – 7

ELLIOTT MOORE

Strong display at the heart of the defence, and had a good tussle with the lively Vakoun Bayo up front for the Hornets. BOOKED – 7.5

CIARON BROWN

Headed a Giorgi Chakvetadze corner away from underneath his own crossbar and was authoritative in the backline. MAN OF THE MATCH – 8

PETER KIOSO

Fantastic display at both ends of the pitch. One moment in particular stood out when he was seemingly trailing Festy Ebosele as he ran in on goal, but recovered marvellously – 8

WILL VAULKS

Neat and tidy in the midfield engine room, but without providing too much from an offensive perspective – 6.5

JOSH MCEACHRAN

Played for just under an hour before Idris El Mizouni came on to provide fresh legs in midfield. BOOKED – 6.5

GREG LEIGH

Very pleasing performance from a defensive viewpoint, but didn’t quite give enough of a threat in the attacking third – 7.5

RUBEN RODRIGUES

Had a penalty shout turned down when James Morris tugged on his shirt, but faded as the game wore on – 7

TYLER GOODRHAM

Had one ambitious strike from 25 yards in the first half, but couldn’t quite assert himself on the game in the second period – 7

DANE SCARLETT

Worked tirelessly up front, and battled hard even when with little to try and feed off – 6.5

SUBSTITUTES

Idris El Mizouni (for McEachran, 58)

Never quite managed to have the desired impact for United as they searched for an equaliser – 6

Mark Harris (for Scarlett, 58)

Had a late opportunity from close range, but with his back to goal, and he sent the effort over the crossbar – 6

Hidde ter Avest (for Kioso, 68)

Fairly involved and looked to poke in a loose ball similar to his goal against Hull City on Tuesday night, but this time the effort was saved – 7

Will Goodwin (for Rodrigues, 85)

Unused: Ingram, Golding, Dale, Ebiowei, Ferdinan.

Substitutes who come on after the 75th minute do not get a rating.
