Oxford United travel to Mansfield Town for a friendly clash this weekend.

The Yellows are preparing for life in the second tier of English football for the first time since 1999 following the club's promotion in May.

Victory over Bolton Wanderers at Wembley means that United are now looking towards Championship fixtures next month.

As part of their preparations, the Yellows have organised a number of friendly matches which have featured a 3-0 win over local rivals Oxford City and the same result against Solihull Moors the day after.

United will now take on Mansfield Town away today as the squad continues to sharpen up before the new season commences.

The two sides have not played each other since 2016 with the Yellows being promoted from League One last campaign while Town were promoted into the division from League Two.

United are unbeaten in their last three games against Saturday’s opposition and will be bolstered by the recent contract extensions of Cameron Brannagan and Tyler Goodrham.

The U’s made a huge statement by tying down both players on new long-term deals ahead of what could be a challenging season in the Championship.

Mansfield has a promotion of their own to deal with as Nigel Clough’s side look to adapt to life in League One.

The Stags made a positive start to their friendlies with a 6-0 drubbing of Hucknall Town last Saturday with trialists Ben Quinn and Eric McWoods both netting goals.

Saturday’s game is set to excite fans either way with the two sides never playing out a goalless draw in their head-to-head history.

In 32 matches against Town, United have won 14 while they have lost 12 and drawn six since their maiden clash in December of 1962.

The match will kick off at the Venue One Call Stadium at 3pm on Saturday, July 27, and will be played in front of a crowd, unlike United’s recent 1-0 defeat to Exeter City.
