EDDIE Pepperell starts his challenge at the US Open this afternoon.
The daunting course at Winged Foot near New York is hosting the event, which will be the Abingdon golfer’s tenth major tournament.
After a practise round yesterday, the 29-year-old described the greens as “mind-blowing”.
The last time the course hosted the event, in 2006, the winning total was at five-over par.
Pepperell, who represents Frilford Heath, tees off at 13.51 (BST) today alongside American Troy Meritt and Sami Valimaki from Finland.
He will know exactly what is required to make the cut on Friday, with the trio the last to start their second rounds, at 19.11 (BST).
Pepperell’s most recent competition was at the ISPS Handa UK Championship three weeks ago, where he withdrew before the final round due to a hip problem.
