OXFORD Harlequins continued their fine form with a 24-6 win over Chippenham at Marston Ferry Road.
The victory, their seventh in eight games, has lifted Alan Hancock’s side six points above the South West 1 East relegation zone.
Huw Dimond’s early penalty for Quins was cancelled out by the boot of Leigh Surry.
The home side retook the lead on 30 minutes when Keni Fisilau went over. Dimond converted to make it 10-3.
Surry’s penalty cut Quins’ lead to four points, but the hosts responded well as Michael Ojo and Pete Boulton crashed over.
Dimond converted both tries to make it 24-6.
Guy Fairburn had another score disallowed, but it did not matter.
Witney suffered a 52-8 defeat at Newbury Blues.
The home side raced into a 21-0 lead, thanks to tries from Toby Thorne, Josh Love and Dan Thorne. Nick Wackwitz converted all three.
Henry Lamb kicked a penalty for Witney, but Newbury led 25-3 at half-time when Love scored two more tries to complete his hat-trick.
Alex Millar’s score extended Newbury’s lead, before Gareth Campbell dived over for an unconverted try for Witney.
Josh Winfield was sent off for the hosts, but they added to their tally, with Jamie Futcher going over twice.
Banbury ended a three-match winless run when beating Reading 11-5.
Sam Stoop finished well in the corner for Bulls. Ed Phillips was unable to convert from out wide.
But the hosts were next on the scoreboard to level the match at 5-5.
Banbury enjoyed long periods of pressure in the second half, but Matt Goode’s try was disallowed.
However, Phillips kicked two penalties to secure the points.
Grove lost 56-19 at Old Patesians.
