LONG Wittenham’s Alexis Canter progressed to the second round of the India ITF Junior event in New Delhi yesterday with a straight sets victory over South Korean Seon Yong Han.
Canter, the top seed, beat Han 6-4, 6-4 and faces qualifier Nitin Kumar Sinha for a place in the quarter-finals.
The 17-year-old will hope for better fortune against Sinha in the singles after losing to him in the doubles.
Canter and partner Seppe Cuypers were beaten 6-7 (7), 6-1, 10-5 by Sinha and Aleksa Lazarevic on Tuesday.
Last week, Canter, ranked 86 in the world as a junior, reached the semi-finals of the doubles in Costa Rica, with fellow Briton Alastair Gray.
They lost 6-3, 6-2 to top seeds Juan Carlos Manuel Aguilar and Ulises Blanch in the last four.
