Sir, What a disgrace to this town the Boat House public house is. On Saturday, June 28, the area around the establishment was similar to a war zone.
Brawling, screaming and shouting, fights using snooker cues and windows being smashed resulted in two other public houses being closed, the arrival of van-loads of police and, I believe, the deployment of the police helicopter.
The next day, many holidaymakers at the various campsites commented on Wallingford resembling a bad night in Lebanon. When are the authorities going to withdraw the licence of this blight on our town? It is doing us no good at all in its present guise. If discos and loud music were discouraged, maybe a more sensible clientele could be encouraged to use this establishment and enjoy its wonderful setting.
