Sir, It does not appear to be common knowledge amongst the old folk of Abingdon that 21 per cent of their council tax is being used to pay local government and police pensions. Shouldn't they be told?
When are the public sector going to take the same pain as the private sector and pay for their own pensions? Senior citizens on fixed incomes paying for index-linked public sector workers would appear to me to be both morally repugnant and financially unsustainable. A local income tax and/or local sales taxes should be re-examined.
