Sir – We are aware that the Vale of White Horse Council granted planning permission for the old police station despite the local objections and the fact that the area had been included in the Wantage neighbourhood plan.
At the time, the Vale stated that they could do this as the neighbourhood plan for Wantage had not been adopted. Now it appears that the Vale can ignore any totally approved neighbourhood plans, as is shown by their total disregard of a fully approved neighbourhood plan for Drayton.
Surely if local democracy means anything, then councils should be forced to support all neighbourhood plans that they have approved.
After all, councillors are elected to represent the electorate, and if they fail to do this the electorate must remember this at the next elections.
