SIR, On behalf of Didcot Rotary Club, I am writing to thank everyone who braved the difficult weather conditions to attend the Didcot bonfire and fireworks display on Saturday, November 2.
Some of the funfair attractions had to be abandoned due to safety concerns, but we were particularly pleased to see so many families having fun together and not letting the very strong winds dampen the party spirit. We are also very grateful to everyone who helped us on the day.
The generous and enthusiastic support of the mayor and local community at this annual event enables us to generate funds to help local small organisations and groups.
We used the money raised from last year’s bonfire and fireworks display to give grants to 11 local organisations, covering a range of needs and age groups.
We look forward to inviting applications for grants from this year’s event in due course — please look out for local publicity in the new year. Many thanks again to everyone who made this year’s bonfire and fireworks display such a huge success.
Keith Lewis, President, Didcot Rotary Club
