A restaurant in Abingdon has been named a finalist in a prestigious award for the best Indian takeaway in Oxfordshire.
Azeem Indian Takeaway in Radley Road, a popular restaurant in the area, was nominated locally and reached the final shortlist for the gong from Euro Asia Curry Award.
The eighth annual awards from Euro Asia aims to celebrate the “dedication to exceptional culinary standards” and restaurants’ “contribution to our vibrant culinary community”.

Shorif Khan, founder and CEO of the organisation, said in a statement: “I have a dream to inspire this generation to grasp onto their roots and produce innovative curry dishes as well as improving the quality of service to customers.”
Nominees attended an elaborate gala dinner on November 4 at Millennium Gloucester Hotel in South Kensington, London.
Azeem Indian Takeaway is well-reviewed online with 4.5 stars on trip advisor, and last year won the same award from Euro Asia.
It offers a wide range of Indian and Bangladeshi dishes, including tandoori and biryani, chef specials and classic favourites.

However, the restaurant received a poor rating from the food hygiene inspector in September this year, giving it a two-out-of-five.
The Environmental Health team said there were “necessary” improvements required of Azeem’s hygienic handling of food, including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.
Other categories like food safety and cleanliness were rated as “generally satisfactory”.
