Public notices are adverts placed by councils and other local authorities to inform people of developments in their areas.
They can cover a wide variety of topics that may impact your life.
They can include planning applications and appeals, road closures or proposals by pubs or nightclubs hoping to change their opening hours or make other variations.
The purpose of a public notice is to make sure anybody - either an individual or a group - with an interest has an opportunity to find out about and comment on the proposal before a decision is made on whether to allow it to go ahead.
A34 closure: Drivers in and around Oxford will have a National Highways road closure to watch out for next week.
The A34 will be closed in both directions from Peartree to Botley from 8pm on November 19 to 6am on November 20, There are expected to be moderate delays of between 10-30 minutes.
The carriageway closure is for structures work.
National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
HGV operators licence: UK Screeds Ltd of 5 Thorpes Field, Alvescot, Bampton OX18 2QF, is applying to change an existing licence to add an operating centre to keep four goods vehicles at Plot L, Rectory Lane, Trading Estate, Kingston, Bagpuize, Abingdon, OX13 5AS.
Owners or occupiers of land (including buildings) near the operating centre(s) who believe that their use or enjoyment of that land would be affected, should make written representations to the Traffic Commissioner at Hillcrest House, 386 Harehills Lane, Leeds, LS9 6NF, stating their reasons, by November 29.
Representors must at the same time send a copy of their representations to the applicant at the address given at the top of this notice.
Ongoing works on Botley Road and side roads: The continued works at Oxford Rail Station and bridge also affect utility services passing beneath the bridge.
The anticipated completion date is yet to be announced.
From November 18, the following roads are closed to vehicles: Botley Road from Mill Street to Becket Street; Becket Street from Frideswide Square southwards for 35 metres; parking is suspended in Becket Street; Cripley Road, from Botley Road to Cripley Place; Abbey Road from Botley Road to Cripley Place; Cripley Place, for its whole length; Roger Dudman Way.
The latest large commitment is to replace the water main in Botley Road between Roger Dudman Way and Mill Street.
This work is being undertaken by Thames Water between November 2024 and April 2025.
Cripley Road, Cripley Place and Abbey Road will be used for temporary bus turning areas and passenger drop-off and holding points.
This rectangular route will also be variously used for local traffic diversions during closures of sections of Botley Road.
Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Restrictions may be subject to changes of days and times of operation to facilitate public use of the roads. They will be regularly monitored and tailored for best effect.
Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road. The alternative routes for traffic are signed via the A34 Oxford ring road.
Stopping up order Blackbird Leys: The Secretary of State for Transport has given notice she is authorising the stopping up of a length and part width of Blackbird Leys Road including a length of unnamed footpath, a further length of unnamed footpath and an eastern part-width of Blackbird Leys Road in Oxford.
This is to enable the redevelopment of Blackbird Leys District Centre and Knights Road as has been given permission by Oxford City Council.
Copies of the order may be obtained, free of charge, from the Secretary of State, National Transport Casework Team, Tyneside House, Skinnerburn Road, Newcastle Business Park, Newcastle upon Tyne NE4 7AR or nationalcasework@dft.gov.uk (quoting NATTRAN/SE/S247/5737).
They may also be inspected during normal opening hours at Oxford City Council, Oxford Westgate Library, Queen Street, Westgate, Oxford, OX1 1DJ.
Any person who wishes to challenge the validity of the decision to make the order may apply to the High Court within six weeks from October 21, 2024.
