Xander Cansell, owner of Caper, will celebrate the store's first anniversary next month.

He added: "It's been a very good first year.

"We are not on the tourist trail so most of our customers are families who live in the area - it's a local indie bookshop working for all ages."

There have been lots of instore author events during the first year with room for 65 seats inside.

"We don't bother serving coffee because there is Missing Bean and Larder cafes near us," added Mr Cansell.

Guest authors have included Natalie Bennett, Nell Frizell, James Catchpole and Jenny Agg.

The bookshop has an election of children's books for all ages, a curated selection of books for grown-ups, and regular events and activities for adults and children.

Magdalen Road now has a diverse range of local businesses – cafés, shops, pubs and restaurants, and was named one of the coolest places in the UK by the Telegraph.

A food festival was hosted in the street in the summer after the Telegraph described Magdalen Road as the ‘14th coolest place in the UK’.

Organised by residents and traders, the family-friendly event coincided with the popular monthly Magdalen Arms Flea Market and aimed to showcase retailers and food from around the world, with music and a photography exhibition.

Former lord mayor Craig Simmons said: "We love living in Magdalen Road and the huge variety of businesses make it a fantastic place to explore.

"We’re famous for our great local bakeries, shops, cafes, and restaurants but we also have a piano repairer, a theatre, a gym, a traditional barbers, and one of the best tropical fish shops in the UK."

Mr Walliams is a multi-million bestselling author, comedian, actor, and television presenter.

His children's books have been translated into more than 55 languages and have sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.

In 2011 Mr Walliams took part in a charity swim of the River Thames, stopping at various locations throughout Oxfordshire.

Super Sleuth plus the entry ticket costs £14.99 and there are still some tickets available.
