Popular coffee shop chain Missing Bean is ready to expand again by opening its latest cafe.

The chain originated in Turl Street in Oxford, opening in 2009.

Having expanded to other locations including Botley, the business is now opening a new facility in Woodstock.

(Image: Missing Bean) The latest cafe will be in Oxford Street in the town on November 22, opening at 9am.

Since 2009 the company has been expanding, and there is a Missing Bean roastery and bakery in Magdalen Road, east Oxford, a Missing Bean in Botley, a Missing Bean in Abingdon, and a Missing Bean in Banbury.

(Image: Missing Bean) A statement issued by bosses ahead of the opening said: "We're thrilled to announce our grand opening in Woodstock, and we can't wait to meet our wonderful new community."

Coffee, tea and hot chocolate is expected to be free all day, according to a leaflet being handed out at other Missing Bean cafes.

Missing Bean opened in Abingdon in 2021, facing fierce competition from other coffee shop chains including Costa. 

But it has carved out a gap in the market.

At the time, cafe manager Devin Oelofsen said the move was a good decision.

(Image: Artur Tixiliski) She added in 2021: “This is the first of a trio of new cafes we are opening and the local community has been so welcoming.

“When you move to a new place you hope for a positive reception but here in Abingdon it has been a bit overwhelming.

“One of the first questions people ask us is about the tough competition in this town but each place has its own unique qualities to offer.

“The Missing Bean is a speciality coffee shop and we really focus on customer service.”

Ms Oelofsen said at the time the new cafe offered a ‘fresh take’ on a town which she believes will be the next ‘hotspot’.

“One of its plus points is the way people living here support independent businesses.

“That really does make a difference - people in Abingdon have stepped up - a lot of people are very big on ‘supporting local’ and recognising small independents.”

Woodstock Coffee Shop and Hampers Food and Wine Company, and other cafes in the town, will now be wondering how their takings will be affected by the arrival of a new Missing Bean.
