Residents in South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse could get extra garden waste collection.

If subscribed to the brown bin garden waste service, extra garden waste can be collected for free this autumn.

The collections will take place on regular collection days between October 28 and November 8.

Subscribers can put out up to four additional sacks of garden waste per subscription, next to their brown bin.

The extra waste must contain only natural garden waste, like cut grass, plants, or branches, and be placed in standard-sized (60L) black refuse-style sacks or boxes/containers totalling no more than a standard bin full.

Councillor Sam James-Lawrie, cabinet member for environment at South Oxfordshire District Council, said: "This is a great way to help residents who have extra garden waste during the autumn, particularly if you’re not able to compost your cuttings.

"We encourage all brown bin subscribers to take advantage of this free service on their scheduled collection day."

Councillor Mark Coleman, cabinet member for environmental services and waste at Vale of White Horse District Council, said: "To ensure our crews can collect your extra garden waste, remember to only use standard-sized sacks or containers when putting it out on your scheduled collection day.

"And please, no rubble or builders’ waste bags alongside your brown bins, as these won’t be collected."

The garden waste will be taken to a facility near Wallingford for composting.

The compost will be sold to farmers for use on their farmland.
