A scam prevention talk is set to be held at a care home near Thame next week.

Hempton Field Care Home, in Chinnor, will host the event with Age UK on Tuesday, October 22, from 11am.

Experts will demonstrate how to recognise scams and the correct way to respond, as well as how to report them.

The talk, which is free and open to anyone interested in attending, will cover how scams are disguised and can occur in person, over the phone, by post or email, or through social media.

General manager of the home, Jocelyn Walang, believes it is particularly important older people are made aware of the dangers.

She said: "We know that scammers often target the elderly because they can be more trusting, and easy targets because they are not aware of all of the technology tricks that scammers often use.

"We want to use the workshop to make sure our residents as well as friends from within the community are better informed on scamming tricks, and to know that support is always here at Hempton Field as well as with the local police."

Hempton Field Care home, which described scam prevention as a "topical issue that often affects the elderly," is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, and provides residential and nursing care.
