Abingdon and Witney College has expanded its apprenticeship provision in a bid to meet local demand for electricians.
The college will now offer electrical installation and maintenance apprenticeships.
The new qualification will be taught at the college's Abingdon campus, and is designed to equip apprentices with essential skills in the two areas.
The college said the new apprenticeship will ensure learners are prepared for a career in domestic, industrial, and commercial electrical installation settings.
Apprentices on the programme will learn in the college’s new workshop area, which is equipped with all the latest industry-standard tools and materials.
The new course combines hands-on training with theoretical knowledge, providing apprentices with an understanding of electrical systems, safety protocols, best practice, and industry standards.
Working alongside experienced professionals, apprentices will gain real-world experience in the installation, testing, and maintenance of electrical systems.
The college's industry partnerships will aim to ensure apprentices are exposed to the latest standards and practices within the sector.
Partnering providers for the apprenticeship include Low Carbon Hub, The Country Cottage (Locksley Group), The University of Oxford – Ashmolean (GLAM), The Lucy Group, Quartermain Electrical, Actemium, and Solar Solutions.
Will Gibbs, construction skills project lead, said: "It’s great that Abingdon and Witney College now offers electrical installation apprenticeships in Abingdon.
"This is a valuable development for both students wanting to become electricians and local employers looking for an outstanding apprenticeship provision.
"It opens more pathways to skilled employment in an ever-growing sector."
Mr Gibbs said the demand for qualified electricians is high, especially as renewable energy systems like solar panels and electric vehicle charging points become more widespread.
He added: "This apprenticeship helps meet the growing need for skilled professionals in the electrical industry, preparing students for relevant, in-demand careers.
"Apprenticeships are an excellent route for those who prefer hands-on, practical learning. Students can earn while they learn, gaining real-world experience.
"We have developed a course offering that suits the needs of all employers big or small, with flexible start dates, hands-on practical training from day one, dedicated support, trainers direct from the industry, state-of-the-art facilities, and small class sizes, which all help to ensure we are offering the highest quality courses within the local area."
The new programme is open to individuals of all ages, whether they are school leavers or those looking for a career change.
The college said it "offers a clear pathway to becoming a fully qualified electrician, with apprentices earning while they learn and developing key skills that are highly valued by employers".
