CELEBRATIONS are to be had across Didcot as students opened their GCSE results this morning (August 22).

Teenagers finally received their results after taking their end of Year 11 exams earlier this year.

Over at Aureus School in Candytuft Way, the authority announced its best GCSE results to date, with students making significant progress across all subjects.

This year’s cohort has set new records with a staggering 61 grades awarded the highest levels of 9-8, excelling across all subjects, including english, science, modern foreign languages, performing arts, dance and art.

An ‘impressive’ 61 grades were awarded at the highest levels of 9 and 8, with 34 per cent of all grades between 9 and 7, and 51 per cent between 9 and 4, with particular progress made in maths and science.

Headteacher Kirsty Rogers, who joined the school in September 2023, said she was ‘proud of all Aureus' students’, stating they have made ‘fantastic progress’.

She said: “This year’s results are a testament to the hard work and dedication the students have put in every day.

"The school has been through significant change this academic year and I couldn’t be prouder of how this cohort has risen to the challenge. The progress they have made this year is extraordinary.”

Over at Didcot Girls’ School in Manor Crescent, similar praise is to be had with ‘excellent results’ across the broad.

The school announced that 87 per cent of the 259 Year 11 students achieved a Grade 4 and above in english and maths, and 68 per cent achieved Grade 5 or above in both.

A total of 81 per cent of students gained 5 GCSE passes including english and maths (9-4) and 88 per cent of students gained 5 GCSE passes including english and maths (9-5).

In total, 93 per cent of students achieved Grade 4 and above in english and 88 per cent achieved Grade 4 and above in maths.

At Grade 5 and above, 85 per cent were successful in English and 70 per cent in maths.

Results at the highest levels are excellent across all subjects with 43 per cent of all grades at 7-9 and 28 per cent at grades 8 or 9.

Georgins Littler, Headteacher of Didcot Girls' School, said: “We are extremely proud of all our students this year.

“They have achieved an excellent set of results in both GCSE and vocational qualifications and thoroughly deserve their success.

“The superb performance of this cohort is testament to the consistent hard work of students and staff alike.”
