Hundreds enjoyed a host of free activities as this year’s Didcot Garden Party started began with a day of entertainment in the sun.

The Cornerstone courtyard was packed on July 27 for the start of this year's summer of fun in the town.

The Carnival of Animals brought stories to life with music and costumes.

Chaos erupted when the Naughty Flock of Sheep arrived, much to the crowd's delight.

The celebration continued with people of all ages dancing to the tunes of DJ Strange.

Councillor Robin Bennett, South Oxfordshire District Council's cabinet member for economic development and regeneration and deputy leader, said: "Didcot Garden Party, which is one of our Garden Town projects, has become a highlight in the calendar each year, and it was great that the sun came out for the launch.

“Families enjoying free cultural activities at Cornerstone and around the town makes all the hard work worthwhile."

Councillor Helen Pighills, Vale of White Horse District Council's cabinet member for community health and wellbeing, added: "The launch day was a great success but it’s only the first in a whole host of fun on offer until the end of August.

"I’d encourage everyone to check out the brochure and make the most of the great selection of free activities for young and old."

A range of activities are lined-up for the coming weeks, including open mic nights, music workshops, aerial theatre performances, and community gatherings.

Various sports including badminton, skating, and yoga are also on offer, all free of charge.

Table tennis fans can take advantage of the tables at Edmonds Park, Ladygrove Park, and Great Western Park - all that is needed is a bat and ball.

Free dance sessions will be held throughout August at numerous spots in the town.

There will also be a food event which will teach people how to save money and reduce food waste by creatively using fruits and vegetables which are past their prime and by using parts that are typically discarded.
