Faringdon crowds have come together to mark an important military milestone - with members of the public, veterans and serving personnel lining the streets. 

Locals flocked to the town centre on Saturday, June 1 to mark 100 years of the Faringdon and District Royal British Legion. 

The celebrations included a parade followed by a church service at All Saints' Church in Faringdon before people returned to the war memorial.

Around 100 people turned out to mark 100 years of service and duty - many having served or, for some youngsters, wearing the medals of their ancesters. 

Mary van Andel Cadogan, the honorary secretary of the Faringdon and District branch of the Royal British Legion, said: "It was a fantastic day with a great turnout."

"We were honoured to have two of his majesty’s representatives, mayors and councillors and Aldermen from around the county.

"There were representatives of the armed forces and emergency services and many veterans.

"It was a special day to celebrate a momentous occasion of 100 years of Faringdon and District Royal British Legion."

The two people representing the King were Colonel Neil Sutherland OBE who is deputy lord lieutenant and James McNamarra High Sheriff of Oxfordshire.

Members of Faringdon RBL will soon mark another important milestone with the D-Day 80th anniversary at 9.15am on Thursday, June 6. 

Members will be lighting a beacon and laying a wreath in Faringdon Market Square as part of the commemorations.
