Abingdon's culture and community are set to be celebrated at an event in the town next month.

One Planet Abingdon is preparing to host the One Planet Living Festival, taking place in the Market Place on Saturday, June 15, from 10am to 5pm.

The event will feature eco traders, sustainable living information, activities and performances.

One Planet Abingdon, which runs the Climate Emergency Centre under the County Hall Museum, was launched in 2021 in response to the town council’s declaration of a climate and ecological emergency.

Its co-founder, Michelle Charlesworth, said: "It has been my vision since conception of One Planet, that we would come together as a community.

"I am so excited that this festival will demonstrate how much rich culture and community we do have.

"And how we can enjoy one another’s traditions, music and stories and in that way really connect as we continue our journey to a one planet living town."

Businesses Taiwil Fashions, Planted Plates and Tribe Zero will host stalls at the festival while Abingdon’s Morris Dancers will be among those performing.

Dianne Regisford of Evoking Belonging, which is partnering with One Planet Abingdon for the event, said: "To ensure a vibrant, socially cohesive town which is economically buoyant, just and equitable, it is imperative to create clear strategies and opportunities which create the conditions for all to thrive."
