One of the world's top 16 cheeses is set to feature at an event in Wallingford.

An evening cheese and wine train will be running at Cholsey and Wallingford Railway on Saturday, June 1.

Riseley's Village Maid in Berkshire will provide the evening’s sheep’s cheese with Wigmore and Spenwood.

Wigmore, an acclaimed semi-soft cheese, was among the top 16 in the world at the 2023/24 World Cheese Awards.

Spenwood, a hard-pressed cheese, won a 'Super Gold' at the World Cheese Awards in 2022 and 2023.

Village Maid will also offer cow’s milk selections like Waterloo, Maida Vale, which has a beer-washed rind, and Heckfield.

There will be two goats cheeses from Norton and Yarrow in Shillingford - Sinodun Hill and Brightwell Ash.

The cheesemakers describe Sinodun Hill as having a unique, mousse-like texture and a bright citrus flavour with red fruit and almond notes.

It won Best Artisan Cheese at the World Cheese Awards in November 2022 and Best New Cheese in May 2017.

Nettlebed Creamery’s range including Bix, Highmoor, and Witheridge will also be available for sampling.

Lyburn's Stoney Cross and Old Winchester from Hampshire will also be part of the menu.

Stoney Cross won silver at the 2024 British Cheese Awards, and Old Winchester, a hard cheese, won Silver and Gold in the Export Class at the same awards.
