Wallingford RFC hosted a cycling team undertaking a journey from Scotland to Italy on Saturday as they reached the1000km mark.

Dodd1e'5 Gr4nd S7am team is cycling 3,000kms from Edinburgh to Rome via all the Six Nations grounds through seven countries to raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease and raise money to help fund a cure via My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.

The cyclists were welcomed to the club on Saturday lunchtime (March 2) with a lunch and a reception committee. They spoke with the club in more detail about their journey and making the intrepid decision to undertake it.

Doug Haggart, a vice chair at the club, said: "Wallingford RFC were delighted to host Dodd1e'5 Gr4nd S7am Challenge on Saturday.

“The team hit 1,000km when they arrived at the club, and have also now raised over £120,000 for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.

“Former Scotland international and British Lion Roger Baird addressed our VPs lunch about what the team were doing and why they are doing it, before being presented with a bundle if club goodies by myself.

“Thanks to the Wallingford Sports Park team who fed and watered the riders and to the Petaunque club who held a fundraiser for MND causes in the morning too.

“Six of our members then joined the team on the next leg to Bracknell RFC. The team will arrive in Rome next weekend, where they will deliver the match ball for the Italy vs Scotland match."
