A church in Great Milton, Oxfordshire has become the first religious building in the county to establish its own localised Wi-Fi network, allowing for tours of the church.

Known as Info Point, the technology gives mobile users at St Mary the Virgin Church an 11-point interactive tour of the historic Grade I building and its unique features.

Reverend Simon Cronk, Rector of Great Milton, Little Milton and Great Haseley said: "Our Info Point is just the first step in our church eventually getting more in tune with the expectations of the 21st century.

“We are close to getting the authority to add a toilet, kitchenette plus other enhancements as well as proceed with a long overdue conservation of our outstanding Dormer Monument.

"The latter is the primary motivation for us to provide this exciting interpretation."

Rev Cronk added: "We already have an excellent guide book, but we can now compare favourably with some of the country's well-visited places for innovative interpretation and this will be appreciated by the local residents as well as our visitors."

Furthermore, plans are underway to expand the services provided by Info Point, developed by Derbyshire based company Wildfi Ltd, including adding a children’s quiz.

The church is known to attract a notable number of international visitors due to its location near Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons hotel.

Local fundraising efforts for the conservation of the Dormer Monument have been matched by grants from Oxford Historic Churches Trust, Leche Trust, Morris Fund and the Benefact Trust.
