A THEATRE in Wallingford is extending its cinema showings next month after an “uptake” in audiences.

The Corn Exchange, in Market Place, will be starter afternoon matinees in October on a trial period.

John Evans, marketing director of the volunteer-run entertainment venue, said: “We’re very pleased that the Corn Exchange Wallingford is in a healthy state, unlike some of the commercial cinema chains close by, and that we are going to start to have afternoon matinees.

“This is being done for several reasons but chiefly as we have seen a good uptake from audiences of afternoon performances, particularly from people who come into Wallingford by public transport.

“Many said that they want to come to the cinema from some of the more remote villages but can only do that during the day.

“So we will be starting matinee performances on Wednesdays and Saturdays from October at 2:30pm.

“We’re hoping that this is going to be popular which means that we can extend the trial period.”

Murder mystery and comedy movie, See How They Run, starring Sam Rockwell, Saoirse Ronan, Adrien Brody and Ruth Wilson will be the first film to run as an afternoon matinee showing.

This will take place on Saturday, October 8.

Comedy film, Mrs Harris Goes To Paris, starring Lesley Manville will be the second on Wednesday, October 12.
