An Oxfordshire couple are the “talk of the village” after one of their sunflowers grew as tall as two men.

Carol and Terance Parsons, of Fieldside in Long Wittenham, are well-know in their village for growing colossal sunflowers as well as other plants, such as roses.

This year, one of them grew to a huge 11ft, towering over Mr Parsons as it is the equivalent height of two men.

Mrs Parsons told this newspaper this particular sunflower has been growing in their garden for around two months.

The couple, who are describe themselves as “keen gardeners”, do not know what causes plants in their garden to reach such great hights.

Mrs Parsons mused it could be something in the soil and called whatever it is “extraordinary”.
