A PHOTOGRAPHER from Shillingford is representing the UK in a European photography competition.

Caroline Allington, who has been a photographer for about five years, is a finalist in the EISA Maestro competition organised by Expert Imaging and Sound Association.

She was chosen to represent the UK after winning a competition run by PhotoCrowd which had the theme of “joy”.

Mrs Allington, who lives with her husband Kevin and their children Jacob, 19, Thomas, 15, Daniel, nine, and Willow, six, said she was shocked to be a finalist.

“I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I was so surprised. I cannot believe that my photos represent the UK in the European contest – it’s amazing.”

Mrs Allington is a self-taught photographer who started taking pictures when she was a childminder.

She said: “The parents would go to work and they wouldn’t see their children all day so I took photographs for them and I enjoyed it.

“It was a positive experience for the parents so I eventually learned how to use the camera properly such as how to use the manual mode and how to hold it and I gradually got better and better.
