A LARGE shop window has been smashed after a rock was thrown from a moving car.

KP Stationers, in Market Place, Wallingford, had its 10ft windowpane shattered earlier this month at midnight on Thursday, June 2.

Owner Daniel Beauchamp, who lives in the flat above the shop, said he heard a “big bang” just before midnight and ran downstairs to find the window broken.

“I could hear the alarm going off,” said Mr Beauchamp. “I went downstairs and found a big gaping hole where I used to have a window – not ideal.

“A bus driver came over to stay by the window while I went back inside to check the CCTV footage but all we can see is a car driving by so the rock must have been thrown from that.

“The footage is black and white and we can’t see the registration number. Unfortunately, other CCTV in the town was facing the other way”.

Police were called to help board up the window but Mr Beauchamp has been told to “manage his expectations” about finding a culprit.

“It was extremely frustrating,” said Mr Beauchamp. “I was outside until 4am sweeping up the glass so it’s very annoying but it’s not like this happens on a regular basis.

“I’d understand it more if they came inside and took something. I don’t know what to make of it.”
