AN annual 10k run which takes place in Wallingford has been cancelled and it is uncertain if it will ever return.
The Thames Run, which is organised by the Crowmarsh Gifford Primary School parent-teacher association, was first cancelled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The multi-terrain run, which has the capacity for 800 runners, was cancelled again in 2021 and due to the uncertainty with coronavirus restrictions this year organisers decided they couldn’t commit.
As the race, which usually takes place in May, also starts and end at the school in Old Reading Road it was decided it wouldn’t be safe due to having a limited number of visitors allowed because of the pandemic.
A spokesperson for the event said: “We were unable to commit to the race again this year due to the long lead in times for booking race timing, etc, and because Crowmarsh School has limited visitors to the school due to covid.
“The race is organised by Crowmarsh School PTA and so the members of the race committee do change as and when children of committee members leave the school.
“I haven’t heard that the PTA does not want to recommence The Thames Run.”
Profits from the races registration fees were donated to different charities as well as the school. The route took runners on a scenic tour of Wallingford.
