THE deputy manager of a care home in Witney has been named an “Oxfordshire local hero”.
Rachel Scurr, who works at Care UK’s Millers Grange on Curbridge Road, won the award which is organised by Oxford Tube in partnership with Stagecoach.
The award aims to recognise the contributions of key workers who have worked “tirelessly” during the pandemic.
Ms Scurr, who has at Millers Grange for 13 months, said: “I’m thrilled to have been named ‘Oxfordshire Local Hero’. I’m proud of the team here at Millers Grange and of how hard everybody has worked throughout the pandemic – they’re all heroes, every single one of them.”
The deputy manager was recognised for putting the resident’s needs about her own and being an advocate for “positive approach to care”, a philosophy developed by a leading dementia expert which focuses on residents’ abilities rather than disabilities.
She worked throughout the coronavirus pandemic to provide “round-the-clock” care for patients. She won a special trip to London and an afternoon tea as well.
Alison Parry, home manager at Millers Grange, said: “I’m delighted to see Rachel’s hard work being rewarded – she thoroughly deserves to be recognised.
“Her energy and passion for care shines through everything she does and ultimately means residents simply receive the best possible care all while leading active and fulfilled lives.”
