A FORMER TV extra who swapped a career on the small screen to work at a care home , says anyone thinking of working in care should “go for it”.

Jim Macleod had walk-on parts in shows such as Gavin and Stacey, Dr Who, Casualty and Footballers’ Wives. A trained toastmaster, he’s also been the Master of Ceremonies at more than 500 weddings. He’s now the head of client and resident experience at Wantage care home, Elmbrook Court, and says it’s the best ‘part’ he’s ever had.

There are currently more than 105,000 vacancies in the care sector in the UK, and almost half a million extra job opportunities in adult social care expected by 2035.

People working in the Wantage care home are encouraging others to think about the career.

Mr Macleod said: “It’s a privilege to be part of our residents’ lives. I love this job.”
