AN EXHIBITION that tells the story of 200 years of brewing in Abingdon is now on display at the County Hall Museum.
Moreland's brewery started in 1711 in West Ilsley, Berkshire, when John Morland and his son acquired maltings there and began a brewery business.
Apart from brewing beer, Morland’s also traded in wines and spirits, produced a range of soft drinks, and licensed a number of pubs, eventually having a network of more than 200 in several counties.
However, it was the end for Morland’s when Greene King acquired the business and closed down the Abingdon site in 2000.
It was one of the biggest employers in Abingdon, reminders of Morland’s are all over the town, in the brewery buildings themselves which have now been converted into flats, and in the Morland’s trademark, which can still be seen on many pubs and other houses.
“Morland’s – A Family Business” will be showing at the Abingdon County Hall Museum until March 27.
