PRENTICE Beryl 1938-2020 Beryl passed away suddenly on 19th June aged 81. She had lived in Grove for 32 years before moving to Southwell in Nottinghamshire with her late husband, Barry, in 2000. In Wantage, Beryl had a successful career as a PE teacher and then Deputy Head teacher at Icknield Comprehensive School (until recently in Springfield Road) and then as a Purchasing Manager at AERE Harwell. At Icknield, she was involved with school dramatic productions as a costume designer and creator. Furthermore, Beryl was very active in the community as a Parish Councillor for Grove, Vale of the White Horse District Councillor, Chair of Governors at Millbrook Primary School, and was heavily involved in the town-twinning with Seesen, and later also Mably, and was a keen badminton player at White Horse Badminton Club. During her years of retirement in Southwell, Beryl continued with her work as a town councillor who took a very active interest in every aspect of local life. She played a huge part in supporting the community, working tirelessly on local initiatives and supporting organisations, businesses, groups, charities and individuals. Beryl is survived by sons Chris and Jon Prentice and daughter Alex Byrne, son in law Tony Byrne, daughters in law Jane Pillinger and Stella Palazzo, and grandchildren Holly, James, Max, Thomas and Will. Beryl was devoted to her family and to the towns where she lived. She will be sadly missed by us all and we will remember her with immense gratitude and fondness. A celebration of Beryl's life will be organised for a later date.
