A BANNER advertising plans for a new Lidl store in Oxfordshire has been “vandalised”.

The sign, which is on Grove Road, Grove, has a section missing which looks like it has been “cut out”.

It was advertising proposals for a branch of the discount German supermarket chain on the land off Grove Road.

However, Vale of White Horse District Council has previously rejected plans and is due to reject the most recent plans submitted on Wednesday evening (17). The missing section allegedly had details about this meeting.

One resident, who spotted the ruined banner, said on Facebook’s Wantage and Grove Community page: “Emotions are running high, it seems not everyone wants a Lidl in that space - someone put a knife through the promotion banner.

“I wonder the grief and anxiety caused to the homeowners opposite and along Grove Road who bought believing the land to be green belt, has anyone considered what sort of precedent might be set, or what is planned for the rest of the field and the one adjacent to it?

“Could anyone hazard a guess at what sort of figure their houses will be devalued by?”

One resident responded: “I think it will be a real asset to the house opposite and may even make their houses more appealing being so near a good supermarket.”
