Oxfordshire County Council - Abingdon Runaway Fair

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT - SPECIAL EVENT ORDER 2011

Notice is given that on the l0th October 2011Oxfordshire County Council proposes to make the above Special Event order.The Order is being introduced for public safety reasons whilst the Abingdon Runaway Fair is in progress on 16th - 17th October 2011. The event is promoted by Abingdon Town Council and the County Council is satisfied it is not practicable to hold the event other than on the public roads.

The effect of the Order, which will be in force between 8.30am on Sunday 16 October and 9am on Tuesday 18 October 2011 is:

(a) to prohibit vehicles from proceeding in that length of Market Place and High Street, Abingdon, between the junctions with Stert Street and West St. Helen Street;

(b) to prohibit vehicles from proceeding other than from west to east in Lombard Street;

(c) to prohibit vehicles (except pedal cycles) from proceeding, other than from east to west, in St. Helens Wharf Bridge. (The existing One-Way Traffic Order will be temporarily suspended).

Exemptions will allow access for police, fire and ambulance services in an emergency.

The alternative route for redirected traffic will be via East and West St. Helen Street.

There will be an alternative route for light traffic (not exceeding 7.5 tonnes maximum gross weight) to south Abingdon via East St Helen Street, St Helens’ Wharf Bridge, Caldecott Road, Drayton Road and Marcham Road.

A temporary prohibition of vehicles exceeding 7.5t (excluding Buses) will operate into Abingdon over Abingdon Bridge; southwards at the Oxford Road roundabout; southwards at the Wootton Road roundabout, and westwards along the Radley Road from the roundabout at the junction with Audlett Drive.

Documents giving more detailed particulars of the proposed Order are available for public inspection at County Hall, New Road, Oxford OX1 1ND from 9.00am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday, and at Abingdon Library, The Charter, Abingdon from 9.00am to 7.00pm Monday to Wednesday and Friday, from 9.00am to 1.00pm on Thursday and from 9.00am to 4.30pm on Saturday.

These documents include a copy of this notice, a copy of the proposed Order, a Statement of Reasons for the proposed Order and a map showing the roads affected and altemative route for diverted traffic.
