Oxfordshire County Council - Temporary Traffic Order West St Helen Street Area, Abingdon

Notice of Temporary Traffic Order West St Helen Street Area, Abingdon - Various Restrictions
Date of Order: 30 August 2011 Coming into force: 5 September 2011
This Order is being introduced because of road maintenance work in parts of West St Helen Street, Abingdon which is anticipated to take a total of 5 days to complete.
The effect of the Order, as indicated by appropriate signage, is to temporarily prohibit vehicles from driving and/or or waiting in sections of West St Helen Street with corresponding changes to assist with the movement and direction of traffic:
1) from St Helens Wharf to East St Helen Street - road closed with suspension of one-way traffic and 7.5 tonne weight limit on wharf bridge;
2) from East St Helen St to Lombard Street reversal of one-way traf?c and suspension of 7.5 tonne weight limit on wharf bridge, and suspension of on-street parking (works to be carried out in sections to maintain access to side roads);
3) from Lombard Street to High Street - reversal of one- way traffic and suspension of 7.5 tonne weight limit on wharf bridge.
4) Also Lombard Street becomes one-way eastbound only and prohibit all waiting.
Exemptions are included for police, ?re and ambulance services and for the works and for vehicular access to adjacent premises which are only accessible from the closed sections of road.
The following orders will be temporarily suspended or amended to allow the restrictions to operate:
The Oxfordshire County Council (St Helens Wharf Bridge, Abingdon) (Weight Restriction) Order 1978; Oxfordshire County Council (St Helen’s Wharf Bridge, Abingdon) (One-Way Traf?c) Order 1979; the Oxfordshire County Council (Abingdon) (One-Way Traf?c and Prohibition and Restriction of Waiting) Order 1980 (as amended) and the Oxfordshire County Council (Abingdon, Lombard Street) Experimental Order 2010.
The altemative routes will generally be via St Helens Wharf, Caldecott Road, Drayton Road, Ock Street, Stratton Way & Stert Street and signed and changed locally as the works progress.
This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of eighteen months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner.
