ABINGDON AC ended an eight-year wait to be crowned men’s champions of the Mota-vation Series in the final race at Oxford.

The club beat Headington RR by 109 points to win the title for the first time since 2010.

It was all down to a superb performance from Abingdon’s athletes, with six runners in the top ten with Owen Stepney finishing second.

He was involved in a close three-way battle for victory.

But Stepney and Southampton AC’s Alex Wall-Clarke lost ground on senior champion Alex Miell-Ingram in the last half-a-mile as the Radley AC star made it a clean sweep of wins in the five-race series.

Abingdon’s Harrison Read finished tied for second in the senior men’s category, with clubmate David Bunn landing the under 19 title ahead of Kie France.

Chloe Ridewood, also of Abingdon, clinched the ladies’ equivalent when crossing 81st overall as the club took second in the women’s team standings.
